Why is there a ® symbol on Convention of States®?
Convention of States® is a Registered Trademark of Convention of States Action; purpose is for: "Political fundraising services".
Convention of States® is a marketing term and not a term that is contained in the Constitution or elsewhere.
This phrase was coined by Robert Natelson in 2010 - his intent was to try to create an artificial differentiation between an Article V convention for proposing Amendments initiated by application of States to Congress versus a Constitutional Convention. There is no difference, but Natelson was seeking a way to help the Balanced Budget Amendment effort that was running into roadblocks as the public intuitively understood the risks of a Constitution Convention. Note, this is 3 years before the Convention of States Project was launched.
One clearly cannot register generic terms, phrases or concepts, particularly out of the Constitution. Just further illustrates its disingenuous intent.
